My favorite toys were not really toys. What I used to do as a child was close the door of my room—it was a small room, but it seemed really big then—and make movies. Shoes that I stole from my mother would become cars and motorboats. A rope between the backs of two chairs would make a ski lift. A mixture of Barbies and other dolls would be the characters. I was building a whole world, which is sort of like what I do now. Now, though, I try to communicate something, and then I was just making stories for myself.
