- Theme Ponds is a project foran ecological centre situated in the city of Busan, along the Nakdong river. The site isflat, wild and covered with natural ponds. The building is conceived as aperforated metal plate embossed in the wet and spongy ground of the estuary. Itunfolds around a series of artificial ponds that operate as shafts bringingnatural light into the underground exhibition spaces. Each pond hosts aneco-system representing the ecological diversity of the estuary. Theprogramming of the ponds corresponds to a series of themes related to thisdiversity. The exterior skin of the ponds is made of metal mesh, filteringlight while visually expanding the horizontal roof-terrace of the building. Theproject does not appear as a building but as hollow geography. It circumscribesa piece of geography, alternating wet and dry zones. Its very expansive andhorizontal layout allows associating spaces of circulation with exhibitionspaces. The presence of the ponds that are accessible from exhibition areasensures that pedagogical activities are always linked to the experience of thesite.
- Theme ponds est un projet de centre écologique pour la ville de Busan, en Corée. Il se situe le long de la rivière Nakdong, dans un site sauvage, plat et parsemé d'étangs naturels. Le bâtiment est conçu comme une plaque de métal perforée emboutie dans le sol spongieux de l'estuaire. Il se déploie autour d'une série d'étangs artificiels qui fonctionnent comme des puits de lumière, éclairant les espaces d'exposition enterrés dans le sol. Chacun des patios est recouvert d'une maille métallique qui filtre la lumière naturelle et prolonge le matériau du socle, suggérant une continuité entre toutes les surfaces du projet. Le bâtiment circonscrit ainsi un morceau de géographie, alternant des zones sèches et humides. Sa répartition horizontale et expansive permet d'associer les espaces de mouvement et d'exposition, et d'assurer un rapport permanent entre l'expérience du site et les fonctions pédagogiques du centre.
