  • Israeli Local Design Reseach
  • "A discussion of design in a cultural context must always begin with some knowledge of culture being discussed. In a case of Israeli culture this task seems especially complex & hazardous" (Ido Bruno)

My interest in researching local design began at the second semester of the third year throughout my studies in Bezalel Academy, the task I took upon myself was to put on the test the quotation by sorting & analyzing the archaelogical culture of Israel and create case studies - objects that are able to communicate through the local cultural context.

    "Coexistense" - case study
"Coexistense" is an all inclusive metaphore for relationships in local design in Israel as in society & nationalities, ornament & construction, craft & design, craft & industry, metal & wood, east & west, geography & nationality.

In this case study I was interested in experimenting with a "local material & craft", in this case galvanized sheet metal craftsmenship, and make it a "design-craft".

    "ASLI" - case Study
Case study of combination of thoughts & questions about local icons, crafts and materials with a delicate spice of politics & sarcasm.
"ASLI" - originaly an Arabic word - strongly interwoven into the Hebrew language, means; real, authentic, original.

    "Alef-Ain" chair - case study
This study case was designed through a glance at the local industry & the making cultures, from Arabic carpets & Arabesques, through the german carpenters that immigrated in  the 50's and up to the biggest industry in the country- "Keter Plast" - plastic injected furniture, through the cultural mix of people that gathered from all around the diaspora and formed the "Melting-Pot" of the Israeli society.
