The Ford Super Chief concept was developed in conjunction with lighting design. That means lighting was critical to the overall design of the vehicle and in some cases actually dictated what the final look would be. In my my original designs it would become clear that light guides would play an important element in allowing Ford's designers to successfully "lightscape" the exterior and interior of the vehicle. This vehicle was LARGE and most lighting would need to cover a much larger area than what is common in smaller passenger vehicles.
Extensive use of transparent chrome was used to achieve what I call the chameleon effect. In all cases we sought out the most powerful LEDs and developed the optics needed for the application.
The lighting took a close second to the large American style pickup. I am happy to say the lighting I developed for this vehicle is the foundation that supports LED automotive lighting development today.
